Hydrotherapy at The Bee Hive incorporates specific physiotherapy treatments within a specially heated pool. Appropriate programs are designed for each individual young person’s needs using assessments, diagnosis and clinical reasoning.

We combine pool based physiotherapy treatment techniques and specifically designed exercises. These are supervised by our Sports Physiotherapist and Medical team to regain, enhance and rehabilitate physical needs and well-being in a warm relaxing environment.

Due to the buoyancy of the water, hydrotherapy allows the young people to exercise with a higher rate of freedom compared to that of land based activities and is distinct from swimming or aqua-aerobics. Therapeutic exercises can be progressed safely using the resistance of the water to strengthen the muscles and improve stability.

The movements practised in the pool can be transferred to everyday life as muscles become more accustomed to exercise and messages between the body and the brain develop.

The Speech and Language department provides support for pupils who are currently on the Speech and Language Therapy caseload. The department is run by a Speech and Language Therapist and two Speech and Language Support Staff, who have both trained at The University of Northampton.

Our role is to assess the communication skills of the pupils on the caseload, to teach the pupils a range of strategies to help them function effectively within the secondary school environment and to ensure that the environment is supportive and staff understand the individual needs of the pupils.
